I'm pursuing a MFA in a low-res program, and I think it depends on what you want to get OUT of the MFA. Do you want the MFA so you can teach? Do you want to learn to write better? Do you want to be a part of a community? You don't need to get a MFA to learn how to write, but it can help. You'll also get a lot out of finding a group of like-minded people and workshopping short stories and novels. Mostly importantly, read, and write. And submit.
