26 MAY 2008

Flatmancrooked Publishing, to our complete surprise and delight, has closed for the foreseeable future to all advertising.  This week fmC secured an underwriter for the entire season (5 releases) and, in accordance with our hair-brained ideals, will not be putting ads in the print anthology.  Instead, each book will be filled full with electric fiction and irresponsible extras that will, most likely, incite hate mail.  We know you'll love it.

We've maintained a steady pace publishing online pieces, but now will be posting a new story every week. As a stopgap measure, and we think a damn fine idea, we'll soon be working with at least one columnist/blogger/journalist who will produce and publish on the site once a week. Following the grand election, our Sacramento release is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8th, our San Francisco release for Nov. 15th, and our Los Angeles release to follow shortly after. We've recently acquired James Bartels' Flag Day (our new favorite holiday) and Jim O'Loughlin's Bartleby the Temp for print. Miss these and be filled full with regret.

flatmanCROOKED has obtained a story from Ha Jin.  A recipient of the PEN/Faulkner, PEN/Hemmingway & National Book Award, Ha Jin's work has made him one of the most distinguished living Chinese-American writers.  His new story, Children Like Enemies, will debut in "Flatmancrooked - First Winter," slated for release on November 15th.  Ha Jin's new collection of short fiction, which will include Children Like Enemies, is due out in 2009.
