Not About Vampires:
An Anthology of New Fiction Concerning Everything Else
Edited by Deena Drewis
On this season of Californication, Hank Moody decried the Twilight series, and in so doing nearly drove one of his students to suicide. Though we don’t want Stephenie Meyer to die, or anyone else for that matter, we’d like to combat the recent spate of popular vampire fiction, some of which is parading itself as literature. Therefore, Flatmancrooked presents Not About Vampires: An Anthology of New Fiction Concerning Everything Else, with cover graphics by the white hot Kevin Best depicting Professor Moody dispatching some teen bloodsuckers.
You won’t find an undead night-dweller anywhere inside the book, but there’s brand new work from one of America’s contemporary high horror masters, Brian Evenson, as well as tremendous new stories from some of this country’s most promising young talents. The anthology includes the top eleven stories from Flatmancrooked’s inaugural short fiction contest judged by Aimee Bender, with stories from first-prize winner Kevin Walsh, N.A. Jong, J. David Stevens, Josh Peterson, and many more, as well as brand new fiction from Shya Scanlon and Thomas McCafferty. Rounding out the collection are our favorite pieces from our online features section with stories by Andrew Dugas, James Scott, Chris Robinson, and Anya Groner.
