“James Kaean is a fine, intelligent writer. We’re Getting On is so elegantly and imaginatively written that it should be a significant debut.”
-Ha Jin

“Flatmancrooked gives us this stunning novel . . . four interrelated stories that often reach sublimity.”
-SN&R

We’re Getting On by James Kaelan

fiction | novella
100 pages
soft seed-stock cover
embossed
100% recycled-stock interior
5.5″x 8.5″
ISBN 9780982034842

We’re Getting On is part of Flatmancrooked’s Zero Emission Book Project. Two years in the making and supported by a 19 city tour by bike in July of 2010, very favorable press (with reviews and coverage from the Rumpus, SN&R, the Urchin Movement, among many others).

This book is part of a limited edition run, 1 of 1000. The covers are made of hand-press seed paper, produced by Porridge Papers. The covers contain spruce tree seeds and, should they find themselves in a landfill on some distant and sad day, will grow into trees. This book shows exceptionally well on the shelf or counter, is unique to the touch and comes with a very timely and environmentally friendly message.

“Your Rightful Home starts as a vivid, lighthearted snapshot of childhood and unfolds with an economy so bright and effortless that in the end I was startled to find that I’d been considering deep and elegant ideas about complicity, parenthood and nostalgia all along. … I’m sure I’ll be a fan of hers for life.” -Lauren Groff, author of The Monster’s of Templeton and Delicate Edible Birds

“This is a fearless and moving piece of work by a writer who herself is headed sky high.” – Andrew Mozina, author of The Women We’re Leaving the Men

“Alyssa Knickerbocker is the kind of writer you want to be alone with for days on end. Your Rightful Home is a sharp, surprising, and confident debut. I know that I will be delighted to ride Ms. Knickerbocker’s coattails until we are old and gray.” – Emma Straub, author of Fly-Over State
